Vacant Buildings, Vanished Dreams
Vacant Buildings, Vanished Dreams is a series of digital stories expressing working people’s economic, social, and personal experiences struggling to survive in the midst of urban blight. This project includes digital stories that were presented as a guided walk by neighborhood ambassadors to stories triggered through multimedia sites on vacant buildings and locations on one block in North Central Troy — surrounding The Sanctuary for Independent Media.
The stories share the impact of economically distressed urban neighborhoods on working families. Living among abandoned buildings and decay, workers share experiences as homeowners who struggle against great odds. Featuring media artists Julie Casper Roth, Brenda Ann Kenneally and Melissa Sarris, produced by Branda Miller, a production of The Sanctuary for Independent Media. Guided walk presented by neighborhood ambassadors and local participants, including Jerry Ford, Sean Mclean, Mac Henderson, Joyce Henderson, and Felipe Colón. This project is supported by Workforce Development Institute Art of Labor Program, and was a public art installation in the fall of 2016 featured by Breathing Lights’ Troy Hub, The Sanctuary for Independent Media. |
